On PCIe 3.0 mobo, I actually lost speed when I upgraded from NVMe 970 EVO Plus 1TB to NVMe 980 Pro 1TB. Lost speed going from NVMe 970 EVO Plus to 980 Pro But if I was on a budget I would spend more on CPU and graphics and go for a cheaper Gen 3 or 4 drive. It should be future-proof for a long time also. I bought the 980pro so that I knew I was getting the best available at the time. It's just plain fun to buy these ultra high performance parts and test em out. And that should have a better impact on performance than the drive speed alone. Then I am pretty sure the latency will top the Gammixīy a decent margin. Then of course I'm going to put the 980 back in the top m2 socket. I ordered a heatsink for $12 and it even has Argb LED's. Using the 980 without one is not really an option. A $220 drive should include a simple heat spreader. So keep that in mind when planning a build. And the samsung need's to have one or else it spikes as high as at least 80deg C for me and performance does decline very noticeably. The motherboard I am using only provides a heat spreader that fits on the bottom socket. It's just an effect of the location of the socket used for each drive though. 019 write.Ĭompared to the 980 which gets. But interestingly enough, according to the testing I have done so far the Gammix gets much better latency at. So my second drive, is a Gen4 Gammix s50 lite 1TB nvme SSD also but it doesn't even compare to the Samsung for speed at 3,615MB/s read (in magician + HWinfo) and I haven't found a benchmark to get an accurate write rate yet. If nothing seems to fix the issue my last resort would be to remove all unnecessary PCIE devices, try the drive in a second socket if that's an option, or even switching GPU to another slot. Even running a Gen 3 GPU or a 2nd drive in Gen 3 could be stopping the bios from working in Gen 4. Also some boards might only support Gen 4 in one of the sockets. If you replaced a gen 3 drive the bios settings could still be set to gen 3. If that is the issue than you should check the bios settings first.

HWinfo shows if the drive is running in Gen 4 on the first system summary page. Most importantly, if your speeds are roughly half that rate you might be having an issue with your m2 socket running in gen 3 mode. If you're currently using an AMD system with GEN4 support and you don't get speed around 6,574MB/s Read 5,165MB/s Write then there are some checks I would make. To add to that Samsung magician will not perform a write test on my 2nd nvme Gen 4 Gammix s50. I have found that the other benchmarks I have tried such as AIDA64, AS SSSD and PCmark all report lower top speeds for me in the benchmark and in hwinfo. HWinfo also records the same speeds so they should be accurate.

Using samsung magician to benchmark the top speed for me is 6,574MB/s Read 5,165MB/s Write at 50% full and 3months old. To anyone who isn't seeing the full performance ill share what I know. It asks to OK restart in 20 secs then fails to update. 2b2qbxa7 is the version 1b2qbxa7 is the current version.

Has anyone else experienced this? I opened samsung magician tonight, and it is telling me there is a firmware update needed.
